Shades

I am responding to the questions about painting on the roll up shades, with questions of my own. I liked doing it, but if I was to do it for others via mail, I would have to determine how much to charge, in excess of supplies.
I can’t paint everything, or at least I don’t think that I could, but I guess I could pretty well duplicate most designs, but I don’t much like doing faces or fur. They make me nervous, too intricate. People would have to send their shades because I don’t want to end up having to run here, there and everywhere to find them. We don’t have too many stores here in The Big Woods. They would have to send samples to paint from and I would buy the paint. They would have to ship to me and then I would ship the finished product back after about two weeks to allow for curing.
I tried painting on a old shade that I had here and it had little horizontal lines all through it and that was horrible. The ones with just a bit of texture or slick are much easier.
I am still not sure what the longevity of these shades would be, although they are sealed with a matte finisher.
I guess the big question is, what do you think I should charge? I put about ten hours into the last one, but didn’t charge her for my time because she is a church buddy. Give me an idea here, what would you be willing to pay for a custom job like this?
how do they roll up Jan? will they link crinkle the paint? a weird thought,,, price look online I am sure there is someplace who does it and charge a bit more,,, they are beautiful,,, my stinking kid told me,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, oh we changed the decor in the room BRAT,,, I will get back iwth ya
Jaye, it should wear pretty good, but I did the design on the lower portion so that they could avoid rolling it up too tightly. I think it will be ok though. Time will tell with this.
$15 an hour, don’t sell yourself short.
